First aid for burns and serious injuries
In the case of a burn or serious injury, the first reaction is critical and can determine the outcome of the situation.
It goes without saying that calling for immediate professional help should be the first priority, but knowing how to react immediately can be vital.
As far as burns are concerned, these are divided into many cases. Let's look at some of them:
1.Heat burns (Flames, Hot Liquid, Steam)
In this case if you are burning, try to extinguish the flame easily and without panic by pouring water or covering the flame with a blanket. Then use cool, not cold, water to cool the burn area. Finally, cover the burn with a clean, non-sticky covering, such as sterile gauze or cloth.
2. Chemical Burns:
In the case of a chemical burn, flush the affected area with plenty of water for at least 20 minutes. Remove clothing exposed to the chemical and cover the area with a clean, dry coating.
3. Electrical Burns:
Disconnect power before treating the injured person; call an ambulance immediately and apply a clean coating to the affected area. With regard to injured persons, it is important to call the emergency number immediately giving the location and describing the incidents. Then, stay safe, but try to help the injured person avoid complications. Do not move the injured person unless there is immediate danger. Use some cloth to apply pressure to the bleeding wound to control any bleeding. If the injured person is not breathing, start CPR directly (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
Finally, it is crucial to remember that first aid is a temporary solution until the arrival of professional health services.
