The habits that threaten our heart
Cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of death worldwide, and many of the risk factors can be linked to everyday habits.
It is important to know which habits threaten our heart so that we can take preventive measures to maintain our health.
First and foremost, overeating salt, saturated fats and carbohydrates, as well as a lack of fruits, vegetables and fibre, can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. As well as a lack of physical activity is associated with risk factors such as obesity, high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure. When the body accumulates excess fat, cardiovascular systems are affected on many levels.
Habits such as passive smoking and excessive alcohol consumption are important risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Stopping them reduces the risk of developing them by at least half.
Finally, stress, if not managed properly, can put serious pressure on our cardiovascular system. In particular, it activates the nervous system, increasing the heart rate. It can also aggravate existing heart conditions, favouring the occurrence of heart attacks.
