Tips for proper nutrition in childhood
Childhood is an important stage in children's development and health.
A balanced diet is crucial for their proper development and to strengthen their immune system.
To begin, encourage children to try different foods and tastes from all the major food groups, including fruits, vegetables, grains, protein and dairy products.
It's good to set the example yourself first. As parents, you are the role model for children's eating behavior. Make sure that you too demonstrate the value of healthy eating by eating a variety of foods and providing positive examples.
Maximise the consumption of fruit and vegetables. Try to provide fruits and vegetables at every meal and snack for children. These foods are rich in health-boosting vitamins and minerals.
Still, prefer whole grains. Choose cereal products like whole wheat, bread and pasta, which provide more fiber and nutrients.
You should definitely limit processed foods and sweets, such as soft drinks, chips, cookies and candy, which can contain high levels of sugar and fat.
Try to make meals interesting and educational by adding different colours, textures and flavours to the child's plate. As well, encourage them to participate in meal preparation as this can get them more interested in food choices.
